Thars GOLD in them thar hills.
May 2008
Ladies, we are a savvy bunch of women in business who are realizing en mass that “thars GOLD in them thar hills!”
Where!? Which Hills!? How do I get the gold?!
From trade shows, to media attention, to presentations to potential investors, to people you meet at your networking groups, there is nothing but raging success waiting for you if you can present your idea, product or service in a way that captures the imaginations of those you are speaking to! So we have put together a few steps to help you make your next appearance, pitch or presentation one that will *click* with your target market.
The key is to realize that nobody knows what your business is all about better than you do! So you don’t have to write out a whole novel and read it, or memorize it. That would just come off as ill prepared, inexperienced and BOOORING!
Instead, set yourself up to naturally project experience, confidence and professionalism. Keep yourself on message, on track and on time with a very simple outline. Just follow these easy steps!
Step one: Put yourself in the shoes of your audience. Ask yourself two questions and write down the answers:
-
- What are the most meaningful benefits of my product or service to my audience?
- What are 3 simple things, that tie in with those benefits that people who knew nothing of my product or service, would want to know about it?
Step two: Write a simple introduction using the benefits of your product or service. For example, for my business I might jot down: “I am going to show you how being a powerful public speaker will increase your cash flow, minimize your marketing costs and position you for serious success right now!” Keep it brief and simple and make sure it addresses the needs or wants of your target market!
Step three: Make a brief list of three simple things that tie in with your benefits and any sub points that you want to cover about. For example:
- Cash flow increases as your message becomes more effective and clear to your audience!
- Learn to use your voice more effectively!
- Read and respond more effectively to each unique audience
- Utilize the media to market your product or service
- Media appearances are free!
- Best form of advertizing because it lends you instant credibility!
- Take advantage of speaking opportunities
- Trade shows
- Association luncheons
- Networking groups
Step four: write a conclusion that ties your main points together or summarizes your message. Repetition helps your audience remember what your product or service will do for them.
Step five: based on how much time you have been allotted, set a specific amount of time to cover each point to keep you on track and on time. (be sure to have a small clock with a second hand with you – glance at it from time to time as you make your presentation)
Now that you have your presentation outline ready to go, take it and HEAD FOR THEM THAR HILLS!
